"Spirituality I take to be concerned with those qualities of the human spirit -- such as love and compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, a sense of responsibility, a sense of harmony -- which bring happiness to both self and others."

--His Holiness, The Dalai Lama

People who may not have paid much attention to spirituality in their lives clearly recognize its importance to their own development. And "discernment with compassion" is an expression of spirituality that embraces many religions and spiritual teachings.

This newly awakened recognition acknowledges the universal interconnectedness of all life, allows that humanity can forgive and reconcile its differences within its diversity, and that we have the capacity to take in the entirety of all that is and all that has been, and to then take responsibility for creating our future.

Statistical Research:
What Can it Show Us?

How does formal social science research fit in with all this? The IOOW-2000 study was first intended as a tool for the pure exploration of social consciousness. Once enough data was collected, extensive analysis and review was conducted with a particular focus on the extent to which a shift in consciousness is occurring. Next, we asked ourselves what we could do with these remarkable findings that would be of benefit to others. The result is the first study that quantifies, defines, and demonstrates a strategic and powerful direction along which people can move "out of the box" toward their higher aspirations. The identification of vitally important factors within our society provided interpretive and strategic insight that will prove much more meaningful and well-grounded than if the information were only based on intuition or opinion. Such data can also be used to position and target media communications, as well as to assist cultural and political initiatives.

Strategic Research

The experience, technical background, and pure monetary costs associated with research of the scale and scope of the IOOW-2000 study is typically beyond the reach of the very people who could best use such information for the greater good of all. It is for this reason that we are making the results of this research widely available through The New America Papers and the Positive Future Consulting group.
