The Common Ground of Our Future-Present
A positive and awakened future has an immediate basis in a great amount of positive energy that exists close to the surface of our society, quietly growing, waiting to be recognized and encouraged to come forth. To bring this to the forefront of our personal and collective life effectively takes a new type of leadership and new institutions of all kinds. The IOOW-2000 research provides additional evidence of a nascent spirituality among Americans -- one that bridges perceived differences between those who identify with traditional religion and those who do not. Even among those types who express the least concern with spirituality, a need for spiritual growth is acknowledged.
- The upper two quadrants of the PFCI-SMS model represent a higher common ground for America. The upper two quadrants of the graph include most of the PA, WNL, SCT, and CSE types as well as significant portions of the CC, ETV, and CMW types. Those people of all the types who are in the upper right quarter represent natural bridges to others of their type who are not yet in this region of values and beliefs.
- The upper right quadrant includes large numbers of people who are already connected with creating more positive future, social, cultural, and political structures and processes. This includes most of the SCT and CSE types, a significant portion of the WNL and PA types from the upper left region, as well as the CMW and ETV types from the lower right and a very slight portion of the DSC and CC types. "Social material stress" that is relatively low contributes toward their ability to act to effect positive change.
