The PFCI-SMS maps of our society are only a beginning to the new insights and related strategies that The New America Papers represents. In short, this is a fresh way to see ourselves from a higher perspective, to step outside of the personal or collective "boxes" we may find ourselves in and see a bigger picture. This perspective also provides a more expansive view of new pathways to a better and more enriching and productive way of living and being.
There is a good deal of attention given to "conservative values" and "traditionalism" in our society. Therefore, a supplementary index to the PFCI scale was developed to address this matter.
- The Social Traditional-Religious Conservative (STRC) index uses fourteen separate items to measure people's identification with old values and habits that they are comfortable with, conservative and Republican political inclinations, low tolerance for diversity, support for the death penalty, and high attendance at religious meetings.
One notable difference between the Social Material Stress scale and Social Traditional-Religious Conservative index is that the SMS scale is focused mainly on descriptions of a person's actual reality and the STRC index is focused mainly on values and beliefs that shape a person's reality.
When combined with the PFCI scale, as shown here, this index provides useful insight into ways that people's traditional and conservative outlooks interact with an outlook more associated with a connection with society, life in general, and a broader spiritual worldview.
