Combinations of Two Basic Types
|
|
|
CC: Cautious and Conservative
PA: Persisting against Adversity
SCT: Seeking Community Transformation |
- A third basic type, Connecting through Self-Exploration (CSE), represents 11.9% of households, which tend to be internally oriented and focused on exploring facets of themselves to gain greater awareness. They also have a high identification with non-traditional forms of spiritual expression.
Certainly a diverse society such as the U.S. cannot be adequately described by just one of these three unitary types (comprised of just one predominant trait). Another 32.9% of the U.S. is represented by another three types, each of which is a combination of two of the first three described. These binary combinations are made up of those people who scored high on two of the unitary traits.
- Cautious and Conservative (CC) represents 10.0% of households, which tend to adhere to traditionally conservative values and beliefs while experiencing a sense of disconnectedness from society.
- Persisting against Adversity (PA) represents 9.4% of households, which may not have an easy life, but identify with new paradigm values while working on "making a go" of getting by in life. They are also some of the youngest in age.
- Seeking Community Transformation (SCT) represents 11.6% of households and includes those individuals who have achieved socio-economic success, are focused more on service and new paradigm values, and are likely to be very involved in positive change. Women comprise a large majority of this group.
One type was made up of all three of the unitary types:
- Working for a New Life of Wholeness (WNL) represents 16.4% of households. These people identify with new paradigm values but, due to socio-economic situations, may be more focused on material well-being for themselves and their families. This group also includes an unusually large percentage of people who have recently made America their home.
