By now you have seen ways that each of the 8 Types can be very close to another. Even types that don't have a graphically obvious connection (like the CMW and CSE types) can share similar typological space. Using these two types as an example, we can see how they share a similar socio-economic standing and are open to spirituality and discovering greater meaning to their lives (although perhaps in different ways). The possibility exists for a CMW to look to a CSE for connection in this regard. What we are seeing demonstrates ways people can be similar and yet seem so different.
In scoring yourself, it is easy to see how slight changes in beliefs and values can shift a CSE to CMW and vice versa, for example.
Overlaying these on a PFCI-SMS or STRC quadrant map more clearly shows certain relationships between these types and suggests ways of connecting more of the "whole tapestry" of society. What you are seeing is the coincidence of similar values and beliefs against a more generalized context as another example of unity within diversity.
Though we've clearly delineated the 8 Types and you've had a chance to determine what type you might be, we know that in society all 8 Types interact and move among each other unaware of the beliefs and values of many of the people surrounding them. How then do we intermingle socially and culturally while maintaining our sense of self and focusing on the things that matter to us? What brings us together through commonality, camaraderie, or even opposition as we express ourselves through our various types?
Even though we consider our beliefs and values fundamental to our being, we exist in a vast matrix of fluid consciousness that enables us to continually find that which we can consider touchstones or connection points with those we would ordinarily regard as too different from ourselves.
One of the major points of A New America is that the IOOW-2000 research scientifically corroborates the concept that we have much more in common than we may think, and that by exploring these points of commonality, we can then move toward a more compassionate and future-present perspective as a species.
